I enjoyed Saturday's practice. 40 kids, 3 coaches, 1 alum and one very happy dog! Of course I was happy with the turnout. Consistency is the key to distance running and practice is essential for improvement. This season we have seen remarkable improvement on the part of many of our athletes and we can attribute that to their consistent effort at practice. Now as we approach the end of our season I reflect on the success many of our runners have achieved and see a direct relationship between their effort and their results. If you truly want to succeed at this sport, follow the lead of those that work hard every day to improve. I know who they are. You know who they are. Nobody is born a great runner . . .
We'll call today a recovery run for our Boys who run Wednesday versus Marshfield at 3:30. Easy pace, 10-15% of your weekly. Minimum 4, maximum 6. Followed by strides, core and stretch. The Girls, who face Marshfield tomorrow at 3:30, will run a shakeout of 20-30 minutes followed by strides and stretch.
The weather should cooperate on our race days with mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the low 50s. Ideal.
This has been a season like no other. Honestly, it has been wonderful thus far, but it is somewhat disconcerting because none of us knows just yet where we go from here. I have dozens of questions. Will we have a League Meet in some form? Are we coaching out of season effective Wednesday? What about Indoor Track and Field? I'm working on getting answers. We'll figure it all out. But to bring this back full circle . . .
I enjoyed Saturday's practice. I love Saturday runs at Burridge. Lots of kids. Healthy, happy. My new friend, pictured below, agrees.
