Day 4 - 2021 Cross Country

The heat of the past three days have kept us on campus but has also provided us with the opportunity to really connect with our course.  Knowing every step of our home course is an advantage, however slight, in navigating it.  The terrain consists of so many surface types; grass, asphalt, wood chips, even a somewhat stony trail.  Feeling comfortable with the course is not something easy to do with a walk-through.  Today we get to put that knowledge to the test with a 3K Time Trial during practice.  IF the weather cooperates.

As you know, the weather was not our ally yesterday when it was determined we couldn't run outdoors.  But its all good.  We improvised, moved indoors, created three quick groups, each of which spent time on the indoor track, in core training and in the weight room.  It all worked out as you can see:

The importance of today's Time Trial is, in addition to the training aspect, that the results will allow us to establish individual training paces for you moving forward.  We will also establish formal groups based on your current levels of conditioning and ability.  Friday will again be an easy day.  We are planning our Saturday run for the Hanover Branch Rail Trail at 8:30AM which has a starting point on Monroe Street in Abington which can be found at the link that follows:

Most of the team is familiar with the route.  A simple out and back on an asphalt trail with five cross streets all clearly marked with cross walks (one set of lights.)  We haven't lost a runner yet!  It's a tree lined, shady route and for the first time this season our runners may feel cool!  We all look forward to our Saturday runs which get us off campus and off the streets of Whitman.  It is a great change of pace.  You'll see.

But first things first.  Today's practice starts at 2:30.  See you there.
