Now its on to the Twilight Meet! This meet is a lot of work. Its crowded, its dark, it is an unfamiliar venue to most, if not all, of the athletes, and this year the course has been changed due to construction within the Barnstable Fairgrounds. Understandably then, the coaches anxiety levels began to rise immediately following yesterday's meet with Duxbury. One quick note on the Duxbury meet. The one determinant of success at your level is IMPROVEMENT. And while I'm never pleased with a one point loss (more on that later at practice), the goal of improvement is stressed each and every week. By my count we had 5K Personal Records set yesterday by 20 Boys and 9 Girls. Now THAT is impressive. 😊 OK, I'm happy . . .
The location of Saturday's Meet is: Cape Cod Fairgrounds, 1220 Nathan Ellis Highway Route 151, East Falmouth, MA 02536
Travel time is 65-75 minutes, but please leave additional time as parking is at a premium and some walking may be involved. PLEASE NOTE: The team bus leaves from the Gym at 3:45 SHARP!
Complete information concerning Saturday's meet can viewed at the following link:
The race officials for the Twilight meet have asked that we pass along the following to our parents and any students traveling to the meet:
Please share the following information with your parents:
·
With the initial parking lot mostly unavailable, the more remote
parking lots will need to be used. Please follow the guidance of the
parking attendants and the police details. Please plan additional time to
walk from the lots to the main entrance.
·
There is a $8 admission fee for adults and a $5 admission fee for students and
seniors. The MSTCA can accept cash, credit/debit cards, and Venmo at the
gate.
·
The Marathon Sports tents will be set up as usual with plenty of
MSTCA Twilight apparel for sale.
·
No dogs are allowed on the Fairgrounds.
·
No grilling is allowed on the Fairgrounds. If your parents
are bringing in food for the athletes, it must already be cooked.
·
There will be food trucks on site.
·
Restrooms are located at the top of the hill by the main entrance
and at the bottom of the hill near the final corner of the loop. The
permanent restroom buildings are for women, while the portable restrooms are
for men. The permanent, red restroom building near the final downhill of
the course will be open to both genders. There are also a couple of
restrooms behind the start for athletes who need to use one right before they
race.
·
Please clean your areas before leaving and deposit all trash in
the many barrels around the site.
Thank
you so much for your help spreading these details. We are all looking
forward to a wonderful weekend of racing!
