First day of the rest of your life . . .

Aren't they all?  But there are only three "first days of practice" at WHRHS.  Today kicks it off for Cheerleading, Basketball, Hockey, Swimming, Wrestling, Gymnastics AND TRACK AND FIELD!  I'm wishing every team and every athlete a great start to their season.  And I sincerely want each student-athlete to "make" the team of his/her choice and follow it up with enormous success.  However, while most of our Winter sports have no cuts, the reality is that some DO.  So, if a student-athlete is affected by limited numbers in a sport, he/she does have somewhere to go.  And frankly, I would be delighted if they chose Track and Field.  In fact, he or she could very well be delighted with that decision as well.

When I was in school many, many years ago there was a young athlete at the local high school who wanted nothing more than to be a baseball player.  During baseball tryouts it was suggested to him by the coach that he consider running instead.  Perhaps this was a harbinger of final cuts for baseball, but the young athlete followed his coach's advice and decided instead to take his shot at running Track and Field.  Young Arthur Dulong, became one of the State's best at Randolph High and was ultimately inducted into the MSTCA Hall of Fame as shown here: MSTCA Induction   Arthur went on to star at Holy Cross, where he was also inducted into its Athletic Hall of Fame.  He became a very successful educator and coach as an adult and is now enjoying retirement.  But my telling of his story can't do Arthur justice.  If you want to know a story of SUCCESS, read on here:

50 Years Later

Incredible!  Consider the possibilities . . .
