Patriot League Championship (Girls) Meet

Just as the Boys team did Monday with new Personal Records being set by 19 of the 23 entrants in the League Meet, the Girls had a fantastic day.  Not only did they place second overall to Marshfield (more on that later) but 10 of the 12 finishers also set new Personal Records.  Monday it was Anthony Pires taking the biggest leap with improvement on his PR of 1:37.  Yesterday it was Amiliya Gretsky obliterating her PR by 3:08.  Awesome.

At the conclusion of the Girls Championship meet the following was provided to School Admin and local media:

The Girls Patriot League Cross Country Championship race was held Tuesday afternoon at Hingham High School.  Senior Captain Myah Kamperides was selected for the Keenan Division All-Star team after placing 8th overall on the 5K course in 19:33. The Panthers finished 2nd overall in team competition on the day, led by Kamperides, along with Freshman Adriana Kelly (18th, 20:12), Freshman McKenna McCarthy (19th, 20:16), Senior Captain Anna Flynn (28th, 20:46) and Senior Captain Sarah Boulger (29th, 20:50.)  Marshfield High finished first overall to win its first League Championship since joining the Patriot League two years ago.

The coaches are all very proud of each and every one of our student-athletes accomplishments over the past two days.  We are hopeful for your continued improvement and success in the weeks to come.  Saturday, most of you will compete in the Coaches Invitational at the Wrentham Development Center.  There are strict standards for entry and not all of our athletes qualify.  Thus the competitive season for some has concluded.  Those who run this weekend will get a look at the site of the Divisional Championship Meet which will be held the following Saturday (11/13.) Unfortunately there are limitations there as well.  10 Boys and 10 Girls entries are allowed, only 7 of whom can actually run in the race. It is important to note however that we encourage all our athletes to continue on with practices and remain a part of the team moving forward.  ALL our team members contribute to the success of our teams.  Whether it be by pulling your teammates along from the front of the pack, or giving them the push they need from the back, ALL are important team members without whom nothing would be accomplished.  I've found the greatest motivation in distance racing is hearing footsteps and heavy breathing coming from the runner behind you.  Thank you for the motivation!

And on the subject of motivation, Marshfield, with a sweep of Varsity and JV first place finishes on both the Boys and Girls sides, along with placing the winner in each race, has provided us with additional motivation.  They are a disciplined, hard-working, well coached team comprised of outstanding, talented boys and girls.  They have set the bar very high and it is our job to rise to the occasion.  A couple of years ago when the proposal was made to add Marshfield to the Patriot League, Mr. Rodgers asked for the opinions of his coaches on the subject.  It is my recollection that we shared the opinion that Marshfield provided a worthy and formidable opponent and admitting MHS would elevate an already superb Patriot League.  They have.  No doubt.  And though you may continue to have to hear me shouting "chase down Green"  (Marshfield's uniform color), I am happy Marshfield joined our league and happy for them.  They've earned the accolades.
