First a word about today . . . Congratulations to two new running stars Hayden Daley and Ben Cloutman who finished 1-2 in yesterday's JV race, each getting a "game ball" for their efforts. Both Hayden and Ben joined us late and despite having no running experience or a good summer of conditioning, showed they are talented runners and will be moving up the ranks swiftly. Camryn Boyce, who given the option of running the JV 1.5 Mile race or the 2.5 Varsity race, jumped on the chance to "go the distance." Camryn got a "game ball" not only for her effort, but her attitude. It is of note, Camryn passed on the opportunity to make an acceptance speech . . . afraid to talk no doubt!
On Friday, we will again split up as we did today. Those going to Martha's Vineyard will work as a group and all other athletes will work together. We will not be holding practice this Saturday. However, if you are not heading to Martha's Vineyard, we expect you to run on your own either Saturday or Sunday for 35-40 minutes. Yes, it's an honor system. Your honor, my system! Improvement in our sport demands consistent effort. The coaches can not monitor your every move, but we see the results of your efforts and know if you have the desire to improve. Running requires discipline. You, in effect, monitor yourselves and determine your own fate. Yesterday I learned we have some talented youngsters on the team. My hope is that they are as excited about improving as we coaches are for them.
Friday now looks this this:
Martha's Vineyard Group: Warmup, Shake out run (i.e 20-25 minutes at E pace), 6 X 60 strides, stretch, good night sleep, be at WHRHS at 7:00 or earlier on Saturday!
All others: Warmup, 8 X 400, Core, Stretch
See you all at 2:30 . . .
