Some thoughts on Martha's Vineyard, Results, Monday 9/14

I woke up this morning still pumped up about the team's effort in the Martha's Vineyard Invitational and made the last minute decision to enter the Jeff Coombs race in Abington.  After finishing up the race I ran home and promptly fell asleep.  Now as I prepare to settle in for Sunday football, I realize my lawn looks like bamboo.  Not ready for yard work just yet.  Football can wait, but I can get my blog entry in early.

Saturday's trip to Martha's Vineyard was eXCellent on all counts.  The team got a nice, comfortable van with all the bells and whistles (including a great sound system which got a workout on the way home!)  The weather during the ferry ride out AND back was perfect.  We had some cloud cover during the races which helped.  The course was flat, fast and soft. The competition was great!  Both the Boys and the Girls finished 5th overall.  We know where we want to be come November and we are headed in the right direction.  As I often say, "Early ripe, early rotten."  It's a long season, and those already is mid-season form will lose something down the stretch.  We, on the other hand, will be strong and fresh.  That said, this week we will all be running versus Scituate on Wednesday at home at 4:00.  In addition, 14 runners (7 Boys and 7 Girls) will be headed to the Amherst Invitational on Saturday.  I plan to speak to the Scituate coach to determine if she would like us to hold a JV race, similar to last week's 1.5 mile race for those not entirely ready to run a longer distance.  My hope is to run a combined Boys/Girls JV race as the logistics for 4 full races was just too difficult in retrospect.  I am also thinking we will continue with the 2.5 Mile Varsity race for this week again in the hope that some of you will move up from the 1.5.  We will use the 3.1 mile loops in week #3.

The results of the Martha's Vineyard Invitational follow:

PLACE TIME NAME

2 18:55 Samantha Coletti
9 20:21 Abbie Newman
14 20:54 Nicole Norve

Everybody did a great job, but two standouts will get a game ball on Monday when we meet at 2:30.

Monday's practice is shaping up like this:

BLACK GROUP:  Warmup, Short TEMPO run (10/15/10), strides, core, stretch

RED GROUP: Warmup, Hill Workout, core, stretch, weight room

Specific details will be discussed at practice.  Just a reminder - one of the few team rules we have is to notify me if you are unable to attend practice. (If you're absent from school, this does not apply.)  If you can let me know if you are going to be late that would be helpful as well.  Use e-mail (stevegeo@post.harvard,edu ) or text (781-367-8487), but please let me know.  See you all tomorrow.
