SUMMER CONDITIONING SESSIONS, ETC.

Tuesday and Thursday on the Track at 4:00.  Last evening about a dozen student-athletes, including 3 newcomers met for core training led by Camo and Norv.  Everybody was out by 5:00 and, in my opinion, it was successful.  We hope to see more of you there on Thursday . . . especially you boys, who were under-represented!

I was personally disappointed by the limited interest in the Couch to 5K Program we offered over the summer.  As a result, the program was canceled.  We are looking at other ways to promote running among the middle school athletes and newcomers from WHRHS.  Distance running is a lot of work.  Most of you know that and are willing to put in the effort.  I am certain EVERY team member was aware of the availability of the C25K program and that each of you has an alternative preparation plan for the summer.  There should be no reason then for anybody arriving at our first practice August 24th unable to complete a 5K . . . Right? RIGHT!!

That said, get out there.  August 24th will be here before you know it.  Running takes a minimal amount of time (60 minutes or less for most, including a post-run shower) and you have that time.  I ran for decades while holding down two jobs, raising children, maintaining a home, and performing a myriad of other tasks.  YOU have the time.  What you NEED is the discipline to get it done.  If you need motivation, how's this.  Camryn (Camo) Boyce, as a Freshman, ran her first 5K (her first HS race, actually) in a time of 32:57.  This year's Captain Camryn Boyce ran a PR at last year's Twilite Meet of 22:29 and followed that up at EMass with a 23:06.  A TEN MINUTE IMPROVEMENT!  Achieved simply through dedication and preparation.  Every one of you has room for improvement.  Some can improve by ten minutes like Camo.  Others, who have already achieved very good times, also have room for improvement.  Dedication and preparation, the keys to improvement.  Get out there . . . NOW!

Hope to see you Thursday . . .
