I don't really want to get ahead of myself but the new picture came to mind this morning as I was putting together my list of potential participants at next Saturday's Martha's Vineyard Invitational. Unfortunately, although we have been approved for two vans and approximately 28 athletes, somebody will be disappointed. I'm already disappointed we can't all go. What I am hoping for is that this trip will be successful and motivate you all again next summer and we can insist on a bus and take everybody to the 2018 MVI. Along with the fact some of you aren't yet ready for an early season race of this distance, the bus trip this year is just too costly given the mileage and wait time. Two vans is an upgrade and a satisfactory compromise right now. Like running, we'll take one stride at a time.
As mentioned yesterday, all our Freshman should take the next two days off (today and Monday.) Other runners should take both days off if they feel it necessary. ALL runners should take at least one day off for recovery. Any run should be EASY and completed at your prescribed pace and within the parameters I went over yesterday. As I mentioned, our goal is to have everybody at 30 miles per week with 6 days of running before too long. I also mentioned my position that nearly all runners reach a point of diminishing returns at 70 miles per week. As a runner, I know I experienced some of my best improvements after reducing my regimen from 6-7 days and 80-90 miles, to 5-6 days and 60-70 miles, supplemented by speed and weight training. I have many running partners who shared and continue to have a similar experience.
Tuesday will be a shakeout run of 25-35 minutes followed by Strides, Core and Stretching with a brief meeting to close things out. Most of you have purchased your uniforms. You'll need one for Wednesday! They are available at my cost of $39.00. Everybody must wear solid black shorts. Style is unimportant, color is however.
Enjoy your weekend and we'll see you when we get back to it at 2:30 on the Track, Tuesday.
