The highlight of my weekend was in learning a number of our athletes conducted their own town cleanup around WHRHS, Whitman Park, Park Avenue, Colebrook Cemetery, Park Avenue School and the Whitman Boulevard. Thank you to Myah Kamperides, Anna Flynn, Sarah Boulger, Theo Kamperides, Nathan Tassey, Gordon Johnson, Dominic Uva, Matt Butler and alum Niki Kamperides. They spent several hours picking up and removing trash in areas in which we practice regularly. Thank you all for your efforts and leadership. We hope to continue the effort throughout the season and get more of you involved. We are always looking for community service projects. We all derive benefits through our association with the towns of Whitman and Hanson, not to mention our Regional High School. Giving back is a way to thank all those who provide you with opportunities for enrichment and growth.
As Coach S noted on Twitter we are are asking you continue your recruiting efforts. Our goals include increased total numbers with 7+ from both our Girls and Boys Freshman class. I'm certain we will achieve our goal for increased overall participation and I'm confident we'll achieve the goal for our incoming Freshmen. Our Seniors understand the value of competing throughout high school as evidenced in their consistent improvement and successful race results and of equal importance, the forming of bonds with teammates that will last long after graduation.
I'll be meeting with Mr. Rodgers this week to discuss revisions to our course and other modifications required for the upcoming season. I've logged quite a few miles and hours on campus trying to create a 5K route that will meet the stringent restrictions at our start and finish lines and on the course itself. We'll have something concrete shortly, but I remain committed to continuing to have a full 5K course.
Strength and conditioning sessions continue Tuesday and Thursday at 4:00. ALL are welcome. You may all have noticed the track and turf are off limits while the track is being resurfaced. We're excited about the new surface. Remember, keeping our track clean should and will fall to our teams. We'll need ALL of you to help out once we have access again. Perhaps we can clean up during the easy segments of our Cruise Interval workouts! Can't wait to get started . . . I hope you feel the same.
Enough of me today, get back to your training.
The open road is infinitely hopeful . . .
