You'll note this IS a practice day. Although we are holding no formal practice at WHRHS, you have all been assigned your workout for today and instructions on informing me on the results. The workout and my text contact info appear in a previous entry (see Practice #4.)
My reaction to yesterday's Time Trial is nothing but positive. I've always felt confident about this Boys team and we can now see that there will be some tough competition for those #6-10 spots. On the Girls side there is some room near the top, and it appears that a good number will be vying for those positions as well. While our total numbers are down, which I'll attribute to remote learning and the COVID pandemic, I am most impressed by our Freshman class. Ten boys and five girls who show tremendous potential and will ultimately become the nucleus of our team. But we will bring them along slowly. Base running at the outset anyway, moving into more challenges as the season progresses.
Yesterday's neon gaiter went to Chris MacDonald whose season PRs have improved from 19:02 as a Freshman, to 18:24 in his Sophomore year, to 17:26 last season. Now as a Senior Captain he undoubtedly will improve again following a full summer of dedicated training. Chris is another one of those runners who follows a plan and documents his progress and it is evident his hard work is paying off. And we all know he makes that long trip here each day which is in keeping with his dedication to this team and our sport. Congratulations Chris!
The following athletes have not yet completed their Concussion pre-test. I'm sure some have started it, but the results will not be picked up unless (a) you are in a quiet environment with no distractions, and (b) refrain from using the reset or refresh command. Take your time. Get it right. Please. Fast works on the course, but apparently not in the concussion pre-test. Thanks in advance . . .
BOYS - Benton, Cafferty, MacDonald, Pickering, Reader
GIRLS - Amado, Bailey, Kamperides, Miller, Minicucci, Reichert, Roderick
We're getting excited for our upcoming meet versus Silver Lake. Girls at Home on Thursday, 10/1. Boys at Home on Friday, 10/2.
That's all from here. Get out for that practice run. Text me with results. 👀 I'll be waiting. We'll see you tomorrow at 2:30.
