My office has a wall of windows next to my desk on the shady side of the building. I'm wearing a jacket, two pairs of socks and I sit on my hands when I'm not typing, writing or talking on the phone. I'm honestly looking forward to getting the blood flowing at 2:30. Yesterday was workout day, so . . . you will get your wish to run easy on school grounds. While I will be outside with you, our proximity to the school will allow you to be close to the warmth if the cold becomes intolerable. But distance runners are a rare breed. Tough as nails and immune to the elements. Actually, that is not entirely true. I've told the story before . . . Ms. Richardson, who you know from the Whitman Middle School, and I coached together for several years and ran many road races together too. We ran a Half-Marathon in Atkinson, New Hampshire on a chilly (-4 degrees) December morning with several of our friends. Every one of us vowed to never do it again. It took me hours to thaw, and I tossed the shirt I received because of the memories of that race. But you won't be asked to run in the cold for hours, 35-40 minutes should do it today. Warmup inside, core and stretching inside following strides. You're all a lot tougher than me, I know that. Dress appropriately and think warm thoughts. Spring is on the way . . .
