Saturday, October 3, 2020 - Practice Day #14

We were pleased with the turnout this morning at Burrage Pond and it was a beautiful day for the team "long run."  There were some tired legs following our races with Silver Lake, but a lot of athletes were anxious to get back to some long, slow miles after primarily short and fast throughout the past week.  In spite of SATs, 31 athletes participated in today's practice.  Thank you for your commitment.

This week the Girls will travel to Plymouth North on Tuesday, the Boys on Wednesday.  We have a single bus for the Girls heading out at 2:30 from the front of the Gym Tuesday afternoon.  Two buses will depart from in front of the Gym with the Boys at 2:30 on Wednesday.  Keep in mind the seating arrangements on the bus.  Nobody behind the bus driver.  One person to a seat.  Each seat from front to back occupied in alternating window/aisle positions.  I am claiming a window seat, at the front on the passenger side, so that establishes other seating.  In other words, if there is an individual in the seat behind me they must sit on the aisle side of the seat.  To his/her left the person occupying that seat will sit by the window.  And so on and so forth moving toward the back.  No need for anxiety or even thinking about it.  You can put all the focus on your running!

Looking ahead to the weather, Tuesday should be high 60s with sun.  Wednesday a little warmer and cloudy.  No precipitation is forecast.  The Plymouth North 2.65 Mile course is primarily run on grass and trails through the woods. Spike course?  Yes. It has a couple of challenging hills you must go up, but get to go down, too.  And as it appears now, PN is planning to hold two races.  One with the top 10 from each team and another race with #s 11 to the end.  I'll be confirming that later today and assigning runners to one of the races based on prior/projected results.

Having a Tuesday race day poses some problems with our training plan.  Monday will be a quick shakeout run for the girls, so I've asked some to go 30 minutes tomorrow (your normal day off) EASY with 5 - 2 Minute pickups.  Monday will, for all intents and purposes be your day off.  We've got a workout planned for the Boys on Monday with an EASY pre-race day Tuesday.

Otherwise, have a great weekend and we'll see you in person on Monday at 2:30.  A reminder to text me at 781-367-8487 if you are unable to attend practice.  Please keep in mind that during this time of COVID I must maintain and report precise attendance records and therefore need you to keep me informed.  Thank you to those who have been diligent and thank you in advance to those who will try to do a better job of it!
