OK Boys, your turn . . .
First, a thanks to the Boys team for supervising our course and facilitating a safe and successful Girls meet yesterday. And also a thank you for picking up (almost all of) the cones! Ladies will be returning the favor today on the course and I'm very confident they will also do an outstanding job of it.
Reflecting on yesterday's meet, I'm really proud of the Girls team. Each and every girl EXCEEDED my expectations! And my expectations were high. ALL those who ran and completed the 5K, finished our tough course, with all its hills, turns and varied terrains, faster than I'd privately predicted. The girls who participated in the 3K honestly looked like they could have run the 5K without a problem. It was a real confidence builder for them. And for those who started and did not finish, the story is this. One runner went down and two others went to her aid. While I would have loved to see each of them finish, I am extremely . . . EXTREMELY, pleased by their concerns for each other. I often speak of lifetime friendships gained through athletics and XC in particular. I'd say those bonds were sealed yesterday! A truly great day all around.
I'm hoping the Boys will enjoy their outing today to kick things off for their long-awaited season. I know they're ready. ALL Boys will be running the 5K. There may be a little drizzle but the temperature will be at or near 60 degrees, so the weather will be perfect for the race. Boys . . . arrive by 2:45, dressed to stay dry until 3:35 or so when your race gets under way. Wave assignments, distribution of wrist bands, warm up to follow your arrival.
I'd like all the Girls to arrive for practice at 2:30, ready to go. Warmup and Easy running is on tap today and I ask that you all bring something warm and dry to wear after your run because, like the boys yesterday, you'll be assigned tasks along the course to keep things running smoothly and safely.
