Let's get started . . .

We're down to FIVE days now until our season gets under way and last evening we had 26 athletes attend our strength and conditioning session.  We've got about 50 signed up for our team and I remain hopeful we will increase that number (52 competed in 2020.)  The coaches and Captains are excited about the upcoming season.  At least for now it appears we have returned to what we might consider "normal."  No masks, no special circumstances.  A lot of hard work, and a lot of fun.  Let's get started already!!

I mentioned to the group last evening that our first week will be spent evaluating the talent, creating running groups, holding a time trial, establishing training paces, and continuing our preparation for  the season ahead.  The Patriot League has a number of teams that promise to provide tough competition this year.  We start with a non-league opponent, North Quincy, at home on September 9.  What it lacks in numbers, it has in ability, so you'll be tested right out of the gate.  Five days later we travel to Marshfield.  A tough course and some really incredible runners on both the Boys and Girls teams.  Don't be fooled by looking at who they've graduated.  They have adequate and ample replacements.  And the Girls team will be one of the State's best.  You'll have to bring your best to Marshfield.  And it doesn't get any easier after that.  Silver Lake returns three incredible girls. The Plymouth North Boys graduated its Number 1, but there are a half dozen ready to step up.  Hingham fills in each and every year.  This year their girls will do that and more, while the Boys won't need to, nearly all are back.  Duxbury graduated its top two boys, but don't underestimate them, they find a way to field a competitive team, year in, year out.

So you've got your work cut out for you.  If you are one of those athletes who perhaps didn't take his/her running seriously during the summer, you might want to take it seriously now.  Those who trained hard and consistently in June, July and August must stay sharp and prepare mentally for the season ahead.  I haven't seen any pre-season polls yet, and have always found them as amusing as they are hypothetical. They are meaningless anyway.  I know what you are capable of.  You are well aware of what you want to accomplish this season.  You have specific goals for your season.  Contemplate those things over the next day or so.  We'll be meeting in the cafeteria Thursday at 3:00 (prior to S&C) where you'll "put it to paper" via vision boards.  ALL are welcome.  If I haven't seen you yet this summer, I hope to get to do so tomorrow.

See you on the road . . .
