Today's entry didn't start as a commentary on social media. Honestly, I've tried Twitter and Instagram and simply didn't like them. (Long story, inappropriate in this forum.) However, I think social media applications can be informational. At times entertaining. I can certainly see the benefit in their use for marketing. But I find them most interesting when they are used for the purpose of educating, inspiring, or congratulating achievement. For example, there were a host of Twitter entries following Saturday's XC Invitational at Wrentham congratulating athletes and detailing their performances. Our own Coach S inspires us every day with his words of wisdom via Twitter. And many WH teachers and Administrators use social media as a means of spreading their message and furthering your education. All of which are praiseworthy. Probably not enough to get this old guy to use them extensively, but admittedly, they can serve a very useful purpose if used in a positive manner.
Yesterday AD Rodgers "tweeted" a link to a youtube.com video challenge made by our principal, Dr. Jones. Those are just two examples of the potential and positivity of social media, first in the Tweet, second in the video itself. I was inspired watch and to accept the challenges in the video. In fact, this morning I've strolled about my office building a couple of times in a (thus far) successful attempt to meet the challenges. A link to Dr. Jones' video follows:
I urge you to spend the 4 minutes to view the video. I heartily suggest you too accept the challenges. The video starts with a message "Everything you do has some effect, some impact." You may be surprised by the response of those you are challenged to greet. Positive impact. But the challenge provides even more for you if you're willing to accept it. Again, positive impact.
See you at 2:30.
