Whitman-Hanson kicks off its Fall athletic season today when the Football team gets its inaugural practice under way at 1:00PM. Coincidentally, a high school friend/classmate/teammate sent me a picture yesterday of a pre-season Brockton Enterprise article from 1968 which included a photo of a very exuberant 17-year-old football player entering his senior year.
Not that I'm proud of that goofy picture, but here it is 54 years, 54 years, later and that same guy is just as exuberant about the upcoming Cross Country season at Whitman-Hanson as he was about his senior year in football. I am excited to enter my 9th year at WHRHS and looking forward to working with some outstanding coaches in Coach S and Coach Kim Coletti. I know our kids are as grateful as I am for an opportunity to work with two of the best coaches in our school system. And I might add that all the coaches are equally grateful for the opportunity to work with some of the best kids on the planet. And I know you all join me in wishing EVERY one of our Panther teams a successful Fall season, with great moments of sportsmanship, countless accomplishments, minimal injuries, and maybe a few victories along the way.
First up for us though is Athletic First Night in the PAC at 5:00PM Sunday. ALL athletes should plan to attend. Practice for our XC teams gets under way at 2:30 on Monday. We'll be gathering at the entrance to the turf field before moving to our customary starting point. I'll be there with the list provided by Administration checking registration, physicals, and impact tests. Forewarned is forearmed:
GET THAT CURRENT PHYSICAL TO THE SCHOOL NURSE.
GOTO WHATHLETICS.COM AND COMPLETE THE STUDENT CONCUSSION PRE-TEST.
You can't practice without having completed the above. Get it done. NOW! This very minute!
OK that's today's message. I'll be working on our home course tomorrow in preparation of Monday's practice. It's safe to say we'll all be working on school grounds on Day 1, getting familiar with the course again, or perhaps seeing it for the first time. Can't wait to get started . . .
