"Fave" Run - June 18, 2015

A mere 50 paces from the intersection of Monroe and Birch Streets in Abington you can find the Abington/Rockland Rail Trail.  Completed only last year, it is a straight, flat and primarily dirt trail which extends from the Trailhead (Picture 1) on Monroe Street to the old, existing rail line near Circuit Street in Hanover (Picture 3), a distance of 2.67 Miles.  There are plans to extend the Trail in both directions.. Along the way you'll cross 6 streets, one of which (Rockland Square) requires some navigation.  While the Trail takes you through wooded areas (Picture 2) primarily, you'll also pass the Rockland Golf Course, The Rockland High School Athletic Fields and the Rockland Police Station. No water, no rest rooms, although you will pass behind a Dunkin Donuts and a 7-11 along the way!  Plenty of parking on Monroe Street across from the Trail.  Because I live within a mile or so of Monroe Street, this is my "go to" run when I don't want to run the streets or travel a great distance to find a soft surface on which to run.  I also find the 5.34 mile distance won't consume too much of my day!  A brief history of the Trail can be found at the following link: http://rockland-ma.gov/rail-trail-video/  See you on the road (or trail!!)
