Thursday's practice was extremely encouraging. The RED group has many runners who appear comfortable going the 3+ miles. Some appear ready to move up to the BLACK group with no problem!! It is each athlete's positive attitude and perseverance which makes this happen. The coaches merely observe. What we see is pretty fantastic.
The BLACK group conducted a fairly difficult workout today. 6 X 800 at a pace faster than anticipated. Consistent as it comes. Each runner ran comfortably at sub-Threshold pace and everybody felt great at the end. W-H is ahead of schedule!!!
Tomorrow we will practice at 8:30 AM. We finally have a comfortable day on which to run so let's take advantage of it. BOTH the BLACK and the RED group will run at a conversational pace (slower than Easy pace) for 45-50 minutes on school grounds or on the trails behind the school. When you feel it necessary to stop or dramatically slow down, head back to the start and we'll conduct some strength and conditioning drills. After 50 minutes there will be a core session and stretching. We should be completed at approximately 10:00-10:15. What I really hope not to see is athletes stopped along the trails in the woods. The object of the run for Saturday is to sustain a slow pace for approximately two times your 5K time. Stopping stifles your progress!
Looking ahead to Saturday, each group will have a workout. This will be our last difficult practice before we host Middleboro on Wednesday. I anticipate a tempo run for our BLACK group runners in this meet. The RED group runners are poised to provide some real competition to our opponent. It should be interesting and fun!! See you in the morning!
NOTE: Please bring your uniform money if you want to purchase a uniform. $32.00 represents the actual cost for the singlet. No middle man is making a penny! I think the design is great and the product is of top quality. Keep in mind the uniform can be used during all three seasons (XC AND Track) and is a great value. There are only three practice days until the meet. Please don't wait until the last minute.
