When the season is over I feel confident I will look back on today as the turning point of our season. It is evident, based on the workout, many of you are ready to turn things up a notch. From the very front of the pack to those at the rear, every runner completed today's workout, and apparently without difficulty. You all appear to be healthy after 5 weeks and ready to take on the challenge that lies ahead. You can do the math. Today, you essentially ran a 5K at a pace faster than your season best. Workouts will continue along these lines. We will, for a time, increase the distance of those intervals. We will reduce the recovery time gradually as well. Within a short time those at the front will feel energized at every stage of his/her race. Those who have toiled until now will finally feel at ease with the full race distance and gain the confidence to move past other runners as they navigate the course. As I suggested in an earlier entry, there is a method to the madness! Up to now you have put your faith in our plan . . . now is the time to put some faith in your own abilities. Tomorrow, Friday, will be the same for both the BLACK and the RED groups with the noted exception.
Warm up, 35 minutes at (E)asy pace with 4 x 2:00 pickups, Strides, BLACK to the Weight room, RED to Core, Stretch
As for Saturday, we will be running at a yet undetermined location. I will speak with the coaches and Captains and let you know our plan as soon as possible. However, you can expect a LONG run for all, upwards of 60 minutes. We will go early in the AM and you will have plenty of opportunity for rest and recovery between our Saturday run and Tuesday's critical meet at Plymouth North. Monday will be a shakeout run with strides and an early departure.
Nice job today by all. Get some rest. It's back to work tomorrow!
