SATURDAY, OCTOBER 3, 2015

That pain you likely feel in your shoulders, arms and perhaps your legs following yesterday's practice is a result of Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS.)  Don't be alarmed, it is not a cause for concern.  The cause is that muscles, unaccustomed to exercise, are reacting to "microtrauma."  The discomfort will disappear between 24-72 hours. One method often used to alleviate the pain is to repeat the exercise . . . but we won't be doing that today.  You're young, and unlike myself, you'll recover rapidly.

Looking at the radar and the weather forecast for this morning I've decided to hold practice as planned.  8:30 at Burrage Pond.  Dress appropriately.  In cool, drizzly weather I wear a hat, a light jacket over a dry-fit shirt, and while I wear shorts during the run I wear pants before and after.  I also bring a dry sweatshirt to wear following my run.

The best method I've found to dry my shoes following a wet run is to take out the insoles and laces and open the shoes.  I have a hot air heating system and I place the laces, insoles and the open shoes near the vent.  Do something similar and your shoes will be ready to go for our next practice on Monday.  Hope to see you all later this morning!
