Silver Lake (Girls) 62 - Whitman-Hanson 38

The Whitman-Hanson Girls Track and Field team (1-4) lost to Silver Lake Regional High School Monday evening, 62-38, in Patriot League action.  Despite wins by Jr. Alexandra Santos (300 and 55 Dash,) Sophomore Nicole Norve in the two-mile, and Senior Captains Abbie Newman and Samantha Coletti in the Mile and 1000, respectively, the Panthers fell to a deep Silver Lake squad. Norve, Newman and Coletti also teamed with Lily Perkins to win the 4 x 400.

The foregoing was forwarded to Administration following our meet this evening.  Take heart . .. we have some very good, extraordinary actually, individual performers.  What we lack is depth.  Other teams are able to beat us simply on the basis of having more athletes than we do.  Team losses can be disheartening, even frustrating, but you have shown improvement throughout the season and should be proud of your accomplishments.  I know I am.

That said, we have concluded the Dual Meet segment of our schedule.  Only those who have qualified for a state berth or a slot in the league meet will be advancing.  The following athletes will advance to the D3 Championship by virtue of meeting the qualifying division standard in an event:

Samantha Coletti (1000M, Mile and 2 Mile)
Abbie Newman (1000, Mile)
Nicole Norve (2 Mile)
Olivia Reed (High Jump)
Alexandra Santos (300M, Long Jump)

In addition we have qualified teams in the 4 x200 and 4 x 400 Relays.  Many of those spots are filled by qualifying individuals.  In addition, Lily Nolan, Carly Alexopoulos, Chiara Cassiano and Lily Perkins will compete in the relays.

PLEASE NOTE CHANGES TO THE FOLLOWING:

All of the foregoing athletes will also compete in the Patriot League Championship Meet scheduled for Friday, February 5.  Qualification for the League Championship Meet is determined by the Top 24 performances in each event during the dual meet season.  There are also Freshman races in the 55 and the 1000.  Athletes selected for the League Meet on the basis of Top 24 include Julia Cosgrave, Mikayla Clemens, Olivia Morse.  Amanda Regan, Thia Craven, Joelle Puopolo, Shelby Newcomb, Faith Leitch, and Kira Hendriksen will compete in the Freshman division races.

Those who have not met the standard for either the League Meet or D3 Championship are no longer required to practice.  However, Spring Track is still off in the distance and I encourage you to continue to practice with the team or individually to be ready.  Please seek the advice of your event coach for training recommendations.

Finally, because I am light years from infallibility, feel free to let me know if you feel I've erred in determining qualifiers.  I would be happier if ALL of you had met the stringent standards established by both the MSTCA and the Patriot League
