Yesterday's Patriot League Meet again signaled the end of the season for a few more of our athletes, with those remaining looking forward to next week's Division 2 Track & Field Championship at Norwell High School. Those competing on the Girls side at the D2 meet include the following (who are expected at practice today, unless excused):

Following the D2 meet, three athletes have been entered into the MSTCA Heptathlon to be held June 6 and 7th, again at Norwell High School. The Heptathlon consists of 7 track and field events completed over the two days. The events include 100 Meter Hurdles, High Jump, Shot Put and 200 Meter Dash on Day 1. Day 2's events include the Long Jump, Javelin and 800 Meter run. I've had the good fortune of being involved with this event for many years and am extremely happy we have entered a team this year. I am confident the team will have a great showing.
The Patriot League Championship saw a number of PRs yesterday, and since this blog generally focuses on Distance runners and the entire Girls squad we will shout out a few. PRs for the Mile were set by Drew Tassey, Brandon O'Brien and Kyle O'Brien, who have all shown remarkable improvement through the season and have become very good distance runners. For the Girls Allie Bartlett and Dorothy DiMascio-Donohue had their best performances of the year in the Triple Jump, as did Lilly Perkins in the Long Jump. As a team the Girls finished 5th of 11, the Boys 3rd. All-in-all a good day for Whitman-Hanson.
There is a VOLUNTEER opportunity for any Track & Field and/or Cross Country athletes interested. On June 24, the Hanson library is kicking off its summer reading program with a theme of FITNESS. A 100 and a 400 Meter run are planned for the youngsters. The event will be held between 10:00 and 12:00 and I hope to see some of you there. I will be taking names . . .
