August 1, 2016 . . . 25 days

FYI - The featured post has been updated to reflect the first 8 weeks of training.  It will be awfully tough to squeeze in that much training in 25 days if you have not yet started.  For those who have put off training until August, I honestly feel (or have felt) your pain.  Whether it comes in the form of shin splints, DOMS, nephralgia (you can google, right?)  this pain/discomfort is made more difficult with little or no recovery time.  I would caution anybody entering a running program to NOT train 6 days per week right out of the gate.  However, when practice commences that is what we will be doing.  In fact, we're planning a long run at Burridge on August 27th!  My intention is not to frighten you off, but warn you to the down side of our sport. Specifically, the pain which accompanies starting a running program. Cross Country running is a sport that brings with it tremendous benefits of fitness, health and accomplishment.  But while experienced runners are producing euphoric endorphins, the endorphins you produce will be devoted to pain reduction.

My suggestion, and the primary purpose of this post, is to point out to those of you yet to start training, you will be best served by starting today!  This rather funny video may help:

For those of you who have trained diligently thus far, continue your hard work.  It will definitely pay off in the weeks and months to come.  First meet, 9/7 at North Quincy.  Are you ready yet?
