Last summer I posted a weekly "fave run," so called so as not to be confused with Runner's World's Rave Run. At least a few of you are familiar with Runner's World, the only running magazine to which I subscribe. A must read, published in the Lehigh Valley near one of my favorite cities in which to run, Bethlehem, PA. My fave runs of the week included runs not only in Bethlehem, but Poughkeepsie and New York City, NY, Burlington, VT, a number of sites in Maryland and D.C. and others, some local. Running as part of traveling is my 5th best reason to run. Destination running is even better. That is traveling to a spot in order to run there. If that sounds crazy you don't love running just yet! As much as I love to run Franklin Street in Whitman (haha) I really enjoy going to a new site to run. Yesterday for example, I ran some brand new trails recently opened just off Spruce Street in Abington. 5+ miles of trails on which I had never set foot. I hope to return soon. For most of the 14 headed to Gardner tomorrow it will be a similar experience. A place on which they have never run. A brand new and exciting environment. Just running on a golf course is exciting I think (absent the mega hill of course!) And like me hoping to return soon to the new Abington trails, all of the runners hope to return to again experience golf course running at the All-State Championship meet. There is a lot of racing and a lot of work to be done yet if anybody hopes to get back to Gardner. First, we must make a good showing at EMass. Fourteen of you (7 Boys, 7 Girls) will be selected to participate in that race. Your results there will determine if you get another shot at that Gardner hill! You all have an opportunity to run EMass. Yes, only 14 will, but it will be the stopwatch that determines entries. Once entered into EMass it is the stopwatch, that great equalizer, that will dictate your fate. A return to Gardner and the All State Meet? Destination running at its best.
Good luck to those running in the NHS sponsored race taking place at 8:00AM tomorrow morning. Those not running are instructed to run 35-40 minutes on your own one day this weekend. You'll have 100 reasons for not doing it, try to find just one reason for getting that run in.
