I am reasonably certain you weren't aware of this, but the 6th reason for running is . . . Running makes you smarter!! Most of us know that exercise increases brain activity, but scientists have also discovered that hundreds of thousands of new cells are created in the brain's grey matter after running for only a few days. Unfortunately, some of you may have to run more based on the Progress Reports recently issued. If you can't do your weekend run "on your own" when no formal practice is scheduled, at least pick up a school book. Good grades lead to a good job and to a good life. Think long term . . .
Today though . . . 2:15 you're on the bus. At 4:00 the Girls run versus Pembroke, followed by the Boys race. Pembroke is a very good team. I hope you're ready! The 2.68 mile (4.3 kilometers) course should reduce split times. FYI - the 2.68 mile mark on our course is just inside the gate by the driveway, second time through. Finish fast, get home early, hit the books.
The picture . . . earlier today I heard from a former student-athlete who runs with an organization called "Back On My Feet" in Atlanta. (The picture is from its website.) Three days a week she runs at 5:30AM from a shelter for the homeless with people who are trying to change their lives. Knowing her, as I do, she is encouraging and inspiring them do just that. Great job, GAP!
See you at 2:15.
