WEDNESDAY - October 19, 2016

Going into yesterday's meet, I honestly did not know what to expect.  Pembroke Boys are ranked #8 in the Small Schools Division, the Girls are #7.  At the Twilight Meet held this past weekend, our teams did not run head to head, but the combining the results of the two teams, Pembroke Boys "won" 25-30, averaging 22 seconds faster per man than our top 5.  The Titan Girls, a deep and talented team, would have prevailed 16-46.  Add to that, we were on Pembroke's home course; new turf for most, if not all, of us.  I was hoping for the best but prepared for the worst.

In the Girls race, Nicole Norve led wire-to-wire finishing in 18:25. Olivia Morse, who had difficulty walking three days ago, followed a mere 22 seconds later for a terrific 2nd place finish.  Cosgrave, Perkins, Boyce and Rooney did not disappoint, all finishing sub 21:00. An extraordinary day for the ladies.

For the Boys, I must admit that sweeping the top 5 spots was not among any of the possibilities I had envisioned throughout the day.  Following the race, my thought was that Pembroke had either not run their top Boys or may have had a pack running/tempo run strategy employed in the race. As our Boys know, I essentially viewed the entire race from five different spots along the course.  No pack running, no let up, just consistent hard running by the opponents.  A review of the official results revealed Pembroke ran all its best athletes against you.  Incredible day for the Boys.

Game Balls . . . relatively easy this week.  After spending three or four days nursing a gastrocnemius muscle with ice and rolling, Olivia pushed the envelope yesterday with an amazing performance!  For the Boys, Cam Wilson really stepped it up, finishing within 13 seconds of our top 4 and staking his claim to a piece of the Top 5.  Great effort Olivia and Cam!

Back to work today . . . not quite sure about our workout just yet.  Most of you know I've changed things up this year so we're not simply following a sequence that has met with some success in the past.  Whereas last year you might have been able to predict what we had planned for today, this year you'll have to wait until 2:30.  See you then . . .

(It was 30 minutes Easy, 12 min Core and stretch.)
