As a runner, I viewed today's EMass from a perspective from which none of you can, at this point, relate. Specifically, distance running is alive and well! I am in awe of some of the performances by these "kids." Whitman-Hanson has some great, I mean GREAT athletes. Today, they went up against some really GREAT athletes. My reaction to today's results, initially anyway, was one of disappointment. But after a 60 minute bus ride home, I concluded our kids are extraordinary. Today's results:
GIRLS:
4 Nicole Norve 19:38
49 Olivia Morse 21:05
87 Julia Cosgrave 22:00
107 Lilly Perkins 22:48
108 Maeve Rooney 22:49
116 Camryn Boyce 23:06
121 Victoria Carleton 23:18
BOYS:
16 Jack Ryan 17:14
30 Andrew Newman 17:34
38 Lukas Moscoso 17:45
43 Bryce Pulkinen 17:50
65 Cam Wilson 18:11
140 Joe Coletti 19:29
146 Alex Uva 19:35
OK, the results are NOT extraordinary, but be assured our kids ARE!! 14 kids working through injury, illness and exhaustion is evidence of that.
Following the meet I spoke with the Captains who agree that the year end banquet should be held sooner rather than later. We are shooting for a November 22 date. We may have to forego a video presentation, but we will have pizza, awards, and a guest speaker. OK, I am the speaker. Sorry to put you through it. This year I may have something interesting to say for a change.
Tomorrow is a day off for all. In fact, other than Nicole, take the next two weeks off. Indoor Track & Field gets underway November 28. I would tell you I am looking forward to it (I will be), but I am still in XC mode . . .
And today's game ball . . . Sarah Jacobs. She understands she may never win a race, but she LOVES being on this team and at the end of the day she is a tremendous teammate and our consummate cheerleader. Overwhelmed by the poster . . . not to mention the Halloween costume!! Great job, Sara!
PIC: No, you did not finish last. But take pride in the fact you worked hard for the past 3 months and accomplished personal and team goals. OK, couldn't resist "trumps". You're the best . . .
