The Patriot League Coaches post-season meeting was held last evening. The following topics were discussed, my comments follow as applicable:
1. The Patriot League Championship Meet - Will be held Saturday, October 28 at Pembroke High School. Pembroke's course has been extended so that all races will be 5K distance. JV Girls run at 2:00PM followed by JV Boys. Varsity Girls start at 3:00PM followed by Varsity Boys. We were asked to try to keep the entries to 10 for each race. Due to the race schedule there are time limits (25:00 Boys, 27:00 Girls.) With that in mind (along with excused absences/injuries) the following entries were made.
JV Girls - Bartlett, Borski, Donovan, Marinelli, Navicky, Wilson, Zaniewski
JV Boys - Allen, Burns, Evans, Hagan, O'Brien, Parkinson, Schraut, Tyrie, Uva D., Vallancourt, Wallace, Watson
Varsity Girls - Boyce, Carleton, Cosgrave, DiMascio-Donohue, McDonough, Norve, Rooney
Varsity Boys - Avery, Cafferty, Hanley, Kamperides, MacDonald, Newman, Ryan, Solari, Uva A., Wilson
PLEASE NOTE: EVERYBODY is asked to attend Saturday's meet and you are strongly encouraged to do so, whether or not you are participating.
2. All-Stars - All-Star selection was made using objective criteria. Specifically, for each athlete, the total number of opponents who finished ahead of them in dual meet competition within our division was calculated. For example, Nicole Norve, had 4 races within our division (Duxbury, Hingham, Silver Lake and Plymouth North.) Nicole finished 1st in three of those races, 2nd in the other. Nicole's total then is 1 as only one opponent finished ahead of her within our division. Only 7 athletes from each division are selected in this manner (those with the lowest total.). The All-Star team, which consists of 12 runners, is comprised of those 7 plus the top 5 finishers at the Patriot League Meet, not among the 7, within our division (Whitman-Hanson, Duxbury, Hingham, Plymouth North and Silver Lake.) Clear as mud. I tried my best to explain.
Selected for the All-Star team at the meeting through the method described were Andrew Newman, Jack Ryan and Nicole Norve. Congratulations to each of you!
ALL athletes are expected to practice today and tomorrow. Today will be a workout for those competing on Saturday, and an Easy run for those not participating in the League meet. Tomorrow will be our final full team FUN FRIDAY! (Say that 3 times in a row!)
Today I will be asking again for volunteers to help with a water stop on Holly Ridge Drive on Saturday morning between 9:00 and 10:30AM . The race is being held for the benefit of the Hanson Little League and it is our opportunity to serve not only that good cause, but a benefactor to our own XC program as well, Paul Clark who is directing/sponsoring the race.
