Next up . . .

After reviewing the official results of the Coaches Invitational the following was sent to Administration and Media:

Whitman-Hanson Boys and Girls Cross Country prepared for next week's Eastern Massachusetts Division 3 Championship to be held at the Wrentham Developmental Center by participating in Saturday's Frank Mooney Coaches Invitational Meet on the same course.  Medal winners in the 5K Junior/Senior Boys Race were Jack Ryan (15th; 16:55) and Andrew Newman (18th; 16:57.) In the Girls 5K Nicole Norve finished 7th in 19:44.  Also taking medals in the Freshman 2.1 Mile event were Liam Cafferty (27th; 10:49) and Theo Kamperides (47th; 10:59.)

We are coming down the stretch here and the work does not stop.  Monday will be a workout so enjoy your day off today.  You've earned it.  This week's weather looks like it will cooperate.  Right up until Saturday morning when the forecast is mostly sunny and less than 40 degrees in Wrentham.  Forecasts change relatively quickly here in the Northeast but the conditions expected for Saturday are only a little cooler than yesterday.  You'll be ready.

I don't want to get ahead of myself but I am thinking about the year end soiree and the 2018 edition of XC.  We will hold a banquet at a TBD time and date, but in all probability mid-week following Thanksgiving.  At the banquet each of you will be given a ballot listing candidates for 2018 Captains.  As always, YOU do the voting and you will be asked to vote for two of the eligible candidates.  Eligible candidates are (1) all members of next year's Senior class or (2) members of next year's Junior class who have two years of experience with the team.  In previous years I have polled each potential candidate to determine if he/she has a willingness to take on the responsibilities that come with being a Captain.  Many decline due to the commitment required.  This year I am asking that anybody who meets the criteria and WANTS to be a Captain let me know.  I won't ask . . . you tell me.  "Stepping up" is the first sign of a leader.  If you think you have what it takes . . . "step up."

That's all for now . . . Coach S and Coach Berens will be leading practice tomorrow.  Be there.  2:30.
