And from the past . . .

Four years and 615 blog entries later I am going back in time to resurrect my 2nd blog entry.  I can vividly recall the meet.  Ironically it was versus Pembroke who we will face, this time in Track & Field, on Friday (weather permitting.)  My current takeaways from this entry include, I referred to the Pembroke boys as being from Norwell (where was my proof reader?), the Girls team ultimately qualified for the all-state meet that year (Abbie Newman began the year injured), and the surprises are not at the front of the pack (we knew they were good) but toward the back (look how far they've come.)

On Wednesday afternoon, Whitman-Hanson Cross Country hosted Pembroke High School. The heat and humidity may have resulted in slower times, but exciting races resulted between the Whitman-Hanson Boys and the defending D2 State Champion Titans as well as the Panther Girls and the girls from Pembroke.

Whitman-Hanson Junior Samantha Coletti, with a wire-to-wire first place finish over the 5K course in 19:34, downed Pembroke 25-32. Behind Coletti were the Senior Co-Captains Caroline Mulrey (2nd, 20:53), Kelsey Tierney (4th, 21:44) and Megan Concannon (6th, 22:27.) Freshman Nicole Norve (12th, 28:10) rounded out the scoring for the the Whitman Girls.

In the Boys race, Senior Co-Captain Patrick Brett's first varsity victory wasn't enough for the Panthers, who were defeated 22-39. Brett covered the course in 18:00, 13 seconds ahead of a trio of Norwell runners. Junior Sam Evans placed 5th in 18:43. Sophomore Lukas Moscoso (8th, 19:22), Freshman Jack Ryan (12th, 20:32) and Senior Co-Captain Josh Long were the other runners scoring for Whitman-Hanson.

Whitman-Hanson will travel to Plymouth-South for its next meet scheduled for September 9.
