The Year Ahead

At just about this time every year I tire of "year in review" stories, lists of "Who Died During the Past Year" and this year especially, political retrospectives.  While the adage "Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it," is valid, I choose to simply thank you all for a great year in Track & Field and Cross Country and immediately look forward to a productive and successful 2018.  There is a lot to be happy about coming into the New Year and I am excited about the future.  Accuweather, for example, indicates that on January 8 there will be a 1% chance of precipitation and it should be partly sunny and 42 degrees!  Actually, I am far more optimistic about 2018 than that.  This morning I was checking out out-of-state Cross Country meets for the Fall and have some thoughts on some possibilities.  I'd love to hear some ideas you may have on the subject.  But I don't want to get too far ahead of myself.  There is much to do in the current T&F season and the Outdoor season as well.  We have some qualifiers for Indoor, but I am very hopeful there will be more in the coming weeks.  The warmer weather in the spring, I would like to believe, will increase the number of athletes participating in our program.  After reflection, I have some new ideas for XC summer training and recruitment.  And because I am approaching 2018 with the enthusiasm of a teenager along with the experience of a Social Security recipient I am certain 2018 will be a great year for me.  More importantly, I know 2018 can be an even greater year for YOU!  See you there . . .
