Wednesday - July 11, 2018

The call goes out again for volunteers to assist the coaching staff with our Wednesday evening running series.  Coach Taylor has put together an interesting format with numerous races.  Help should arrive at 5:00-5:15.  We'd love to see you there!

"Core at Four" WILL be held tomorrow (Thursday.)  Our Captains will be attending a mandatory meeting, but we'll put something together.  Again, ALL are welcome and we hope to see you at 4:00!  We had a group of 20 or so last night despite the heat including several new faces.  The weather should improve for Thursday. These sessions, while optional, are the perfect opportunity to get acquainted with your teammates while getting fit.

Have you had the opportunity to check out the Admiral McRaven video posted the other day?  If you have not, it is well worth viewing.  Of course if you have, you heard him speak about the Navy Seal teams forming groups and paddling many miles in rough seas, requiring the equal effort of each member of the seven man crew.  Without that combined effort the crew was likely to capsize.  He points out that completing any task requires the involvement of friends, colleagues and teammates.  For many years I ran with a group of friends.  We would meet at a time and place specified for our weekend long runs which ultimately culminated in many of us running the Boston Marathon each year.  Those friendships and that accountability insured (a) our showing up, and (b) accomplishment of our goals.

It is always better to train with friends.  Maeve and Theo provided an example of that yesterday.  Those that showed up at the track last evening did as well.  Put some accountability into your training regimen by planning training sessions with your friends.  You too will learn that rough seas are more easily navigated when you have somebody to paddle with.
