Tuesday - July 10, 2018

Another hot one!  It is, after all, July.  I can't stress enough the importance of proper hydration.  I also think it is important to be able to recognize dehydration.  The following article describes it well and also addresses the remedies:

I  am aware some of you have already heard this, but I can vividly recall driving through Whitman many summer mornings prior to becoming a coach at W-H, and seeing a group of student-athletes training together before the sun and the temperature rose.  Honestly, it was one of the things that attracted me to the job.  Again I was reminded of those days when traveling through Whitman early today I saw Maeve McDonough and Theo Kamperides running through town.

If any of you had the opportunity to view the video posted yesterday, Admiral McRaven spoke of ten ways to "change the world" with the first being the "simple act of making your bed" and completing that "first task of the day."  The speaker is no doubt making the suggestion that starting the day off right by completing a task can set the tone for the entire day (presumably resulting in more completed tasks.)  And if your day is not all that productive otherwise, you still go home to a made bed which intrinsically generates optimism for a better tomorrow.  What better early morning task than to get your run in?  I guarantee the rest of your day will be better for it.  Want a seat on the ferry to Martha's Vineyard?  It's a good start.  Maybe you'll get a seat next to Maeve or Theo!

"Core at four" I'm told, and we're hoping to enlist some volunteers to help out with our Wednesday evening Youth program at the track.  Have a great day . . .
