Great Practice Today - Long Run Tomorrow

Separating into groups generally creates a number of responses.  To name a few . . . disappointment, concern, anger, feeling of separation, and even relief.  Most often though it provides motivation for those with a genuine desire to move into the top group of 7-10 athletes.  Today 6 Boys and 6 Girls ran for 4-5 miles with the remainder of the team staying on the school grounds either on the Track or back out on our course.  I got glowing reports from the other coaches concerning both your effort AND your progress.  There are always the few who give the appearance of wanting to be somewhere else, but I am told that almost everybody did an outstanding job today.  We could see some talented runners yesterday, many without a lot of miles under their belts.  Today those staying back were challenged to run the entire XC course they ran yesterday without stopping and a large number did just that.  While I was out with the lead groups I mentioned to the Boys that there are a lot of youngsters who we feel have top 10 talent and that those in the lead group will have to work extra hard in order to maintain their positions.  They are ready for that challenge and based on what I've seen from those runners in the past, they will continue to work very hard to solidify their spots in the top 7-10.  This is going to be a great season.

Tomorrow we will be running off-site at Burrage Pond in Hanson.  Practice gets under way at 8:30.  Mandatory reading before practice can be found at the following link.  Two minutes of very sound advice.  Read and heed!
