Super Bowl Weekend and beyond . . .

Today’s workout is typical for this time of year.  30-35 minutes in the cold with hill repeats punctuated by a 90 second jog between each.  The track was under snow for but a day or two this season and the winter, although cold, has been great to our group.  Without a single indoor practice and being able to go out each day, you have responded nicely.  I’m really proud of you kids.  Not a single complaint, just consistent effort all season long.  And the weather looks like it will cooperate straight through the upcoming week with a couple of warm days thrown in. Awesome !

Tomorrow is a rare Saturday off.  With the warm days ahead and the Patriot League Meet scheduled for Friday, Sunday will be a 45-60 minute easy run on your own as you get ready to watch the Patriots beat the Rams.  I wouldn’t wager a single dime but I don’t believe it will be as close as the “experts” think.  Sunny and mid 40’s for your run.  Perfect day for training.  Game time is 6:30.  No excuses.

With Monday, in the mid 50’s you’ll be on the Track.  On very cold days, track workouts can be difficult with recovery in the cold wind and the shade of the half time buildings (that also helps to explain workouts like today’s.) But Monday will feel tropical at 50+.  Be prepared.  Tuesday we’ll go long again in the warmth and we’ll taper down to Friday’s meet Wednesday and Thursday.

With only a couple of wins to show for our teams this season, some of you may be disappointed.  Like you, I enjoy winning more than losing.  But each week you have made improvements and your commitment is extraordinary.  Every one of you works hard each day, and I know how much you love being a distance athlete.  Success is not alway measured in wins, and I’ll be taking my (very slow) victory lap when you “kids” get out for your run just before kickoff of Super Bowl LXXIII.  You do the math . . .

See you Monday!
