Monday, September 21, Practice Day #3

The teams will be back on our home course with more EASY miles today at 2:30.  We'll again meet on the field by our Starting Line, with masks on, and find a spot marked X from which we'll begin our warm up.  We want to insure everybody is familiar with our course before holding our Time Trial on Tuesday.  Athletes who progressed through summer training plans which included "Mile Repeats" will not be included in the Time Trial.  The Trial should NOT create any anxiety for any athlete.  We merely use it to determine current levels of ability and  to assign athletes of comparable abilities to their initial training groups.  This has been our time-tested process for many years and should be fun and interesting.  Fun because it helps to create a competitive atmosphere while making our runners more comfortable with our home course.  Interesting because the coaching staff gets its first opportunity to evaluate the potential of our athletes and our teams.  This year, the Time Trial also offers us the chance to make a dry run through finish lines procedures.  The process has changed dramatically due to the pandemic.  A full explanation will be provided prior to getting the Time Trial underway.

Saturday was a great practice for those in attendance.  Generally, we set aside Saturday for our "long runs" or invitationals.  Some of our more experienced runners put in 8-12 miles on Saturday.  Others will gradually increase distances on our Saturday "long runs" as many did this this past weekend.   We are impressed early on with many of you.  Keep up the good work.

On Saturday Coach S awarded the daily gaiter to Dominic Uva.  Dom is a very worthy recipient.  Over the years he has experienced severe shin splints which, at times, have kept him out of competition.  But he has always maintained a great attitude and continued to work hard in spite of the consistent pain.  This summer he dedicated himself to a challenging training plan, participated in our summer strength and conditioning training, and is now running pain free.  Dom's hard work and commitment serve as a great example for his teammates. Congratulations Dominic!

Just a reminder . . . practice is held every day at 2:30 and on Saturday mornings at a time and location determined in advance during the week.  If you are unable to attend practice for any reason, please text Coach George at 781-367-8487 prior to the scheduled practice and be sure to identify yourself by name in the text. It is not simply a matter of courtesy but COVID-19 modifications and requirements require detailed attendance records be maintained.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

And finally, another neon gaiter will be awarded at practice today!  And we will continue to award one each day of practice.  But, you'll have to be there to receive it.  So, we hope to see you all at 2:30, ready to go.
