Saturday September 19, 2020 Practice Day #2

It felt great to return to Cross Country practice yesterday afternoon.  The weather was cooperative and 33 Boys and 16 Girls arrived, prepared to run.  There are, as we anticipated, many levels of experience, conditioning and abilities.  The coaching staff is prepared for the challenges this brings.  Coupled with the pandemic and the modifications required by it, we have our work cut out for us.  But this is what we do, and we wouldn't be here if we didn't love it.

Following introductions, the full team warmed up and ran the new 5K course we recently created in response again to the pandemic.  The course essentially eliminates all contact between runners and was surprisingly met with nothing but positive reactions.  As with anything new it will take some getting used to, but we will be back at it this morning at 8:30 so that all our athletes become thoroughly familiar with the course on which home meets will be held this fall.

It is our plan to award a neon gaiter each day to a deserving recipient and yesterday's first recipient was Myah Kamperides.  Myah was our top runner from the Girls team last year and there is little doubt as to why.  This summer she prepared for the upcoming season by following, and documenting the results of the plan set out by the coaches.  Each day Myah documented her progress on Instagram where she meticulously detailed nearly every step over the past four months.  In addition, she documented her consistent weight training and core work.  Myah is a great example for our younger runners.  Her commitment is unparalleled and will pay big dividends in the days to come.

Following practice, we coaches discussed the day and we are all very excited to see how the teams progress.  We are all very positive about the season and will do all we can to prepare everybody for our upcoming home meet versus Silver Lake.  I urge all of you to follow Coach S on Twitter and Coach Coletti on Facebook and check back here as well for news and updates.

See you all in about an hour . . .
