After many long months without organized high school sports, Whitman-Hanson returns many of its fall teams to action on Friday, September 18. Cross Country has been designated a sport which can resume at that time. We are ready to get things underway and plan to do so at 2:30 Friday afternoon when we convene on the upper field behind the football stadium. As you know there will be many changes. The information which follows below is provided with respect to our initial practice and thereafter. It is important to note Cross Country has no cuts. We do not have “tryouts.” ALL are welcome. ALL participate in competition. We have no "bench." We encourage any student with an interest in distance running to try Cross Country. NO experience is required.
ALL student-athletes MUST be registered to participate in his/her particular sport. Those who have registered for another sport and have decided to change to or add Cross Country must inform AD Rodgers of his/her intention. A registration form/permission slip can be found at the following link.

ALL student-athletes MUST have a current physical in order to participate. Physical exams are current for 13 months following the date of the physical exam. Physicals that expire during the season MUST be updated prior to the expiration date to continue participation. Physical exams can be submitted directly to the school, but if there is any question as to whether your physical is current please contact me (781-367-8487) and/or bring a copy of the physical to your first practice.
Detailed information regarding the rules and modifications relative to Cross Country can be found at the following link:
Highlights include:
Prior to attending practice, coaches and athletes should check their temperature. Anyone with a temperature 100 degrees or higher should not attend practice.
The coaches are responsible for ensuring social distancing is maintained between athletes as much as possible. This has been stressed during our summer conditioning sessions and will continue throughout the season. ALL student-athletes should have masks or face coverings available to them at ALL times and wear them when social distancing can not be maintained. There will be further instructions provided at our first practice.
No personal items can be shared among athletes. There will be no sharing of water bottles. Any items not being worn or used should be placed in a personal gym bag. Gym bags will be placed in a predetermined area 6 feet apart for the duration of practice or competition. All articles of clothing and other practice gear should be cleaned or disinfected after every practice and before returning to the next practice. This is for everyone's protection.
Practice will begin at 2:30 on Friday, September 18th and again on Saturday morning, September 19th at a time/place to be determined. Practice thereafter will be held each day at 2:30 at the school except on Saturday morning which will be held at a time and place to be determined in advance. This is our regular practice schedule. ALL student-athletes are expected to be at practice. We understand that for many reasons this is not possible. When unable to attend practice for any reason you are expected to contact Coach George via text message before the start of the scheduled practice at 781-367-8487. Please include your name in the text.
The coaching staff consists of Head Coach Steve George and Assistants Steve Schlicting and Kim Coletti. All our coaches have considerable coaching and running experience. All are intent on providing a positive and memorable experience. We welcome questions from students AND parents and will do our best to respond to those questions and will address any concern you have as quickly as possible.
Until Friday then . . .
