MONDAY - SEPTEMBER 28, 2020 - Practice Day #9

Saturday's long run (Practice #8) went smoothly on many levels.  Only 3 athletes neglected to text they would be unable to make practice and those that attended ran great and looked good doing it.  The less experienced runners are showing progress in their distances and endurance, while the more experienced runners are exceeding expectations and enjoying it.  You are all making the coaches' jobs easy and more rewarding than we could have hoped for.  All is well with WHXC!

Our numbers are down and I think the rosters are now set at 32 Boys and 19 Girls.  While that is somewhat disheartening, there are still more kids running than when I first arrived 7 years ago, and the commitment and enthusiasm shown by these teams are at an all time high.

We're looking forward to our season openers with the Girls facing Silver Lake at home on Thursday at 3:30.  The Boys will run against Silver Lake on Friday.  Same venue, same time.  We're still ironing out COVID procedures with our finish line but I'm certain we'll have that perfected by Thursday!

Today, Groups 1 and 2 will have the following workouts:

Boys:  Mile Warm up, 8 X 400 with 4 Minute Recovery, Mile Cool Down,  Core, Stretch

Girls:  Mile Warm up, 7 X 300 with 4 Minute Recovery, Mile Cool Down, Core, Stretch

Groups 3, 4, 5 :  5K easy run on the XC Course, Strides, Core, Stretch

Friday's neon gaiter was presented to Senior Captain Bryn Miller!  Bryn was late in arriving to XC after playing soccer for two years, but we was quick in making an impact.  From her first competition in last year's time trial we could see that Bryn was a special athlete.  Bryn is a workout fanatic and last year's second best performer in only her first season of competitive running.  Bryn will have another terrific campaign this year based on her effort thus far.  Congratulations Bryn!

See you all at 2:30!
