After 9 days of practice I am confident in saying (a) we have a lot of talented runners, which equates to short term success, and (b) we are increasing our numbers of younger athletes, which will equate to long term success. We aren't quite where we want to be just yet in conditioning (or numbers,) but I see improvements every day in each of you. We had another nice turnout today and your perseverence will pay off. I can't wait until Wednesday when we can take another look at where your current fitness levels are as we run against Middleboro. I am certain several of you will move up to the BLACK group following the meet. If you're ready for the challenge, the BLACK group is ready to offer it!
There are a lot of successful XC programs in New England, none better than LaSalle Academy of Rhode Island. Ma.Milesplit features the LaSalle XC team in this week's workout Wednesday which you can find at the following link and which I think you would enjoy. For me it is motivational/inspirational and I believe you may think so as well.

Sunday is your day off. Use it to rest and recover and to set the stage for next week which will be necessarily challenging but difficult with the heat. Monday is an easy run on your own of between 30 to 60 minutes depending upon your level of fitness. A reminder . . . hydration is not the bottle of water you gulp down before practice. Proper hydration is drinking plenty of water each and every day. Also, it is important to have a healthy, nutritious diet. Junk foods will slow you down . . . literally. The article at the following link details some of the long-term as well short-term effects of an unhealthy diet.

Keep in mind it takes about two days for you to digest that Boston Creme donut. Oh, it tastes great, but it will stop you in your tracks. Enjoy the weekend, be safe and healthy and we'll see you Tuesday.
