Monday - November 30, 2015

The most recent list of athletes (on the Girls side) stands at 52.  22 are returning, 30 are new to the sport, with about half of that number Freshmen.  Whether those numbers will hold up is yet to be seen.  I expect some will decide not to participate while others not on the list may opt in.  If there are cuts in the other sports we may even pick up a few more.  Those who are returning may recall last year the Girls team did a series of "tests" over the first two days to give the coaches an indication of where each athlete's abilities lies.  Coach Driscoll and I intend to do something similar this year.  Some may be excluded from the testing since we already know your skills and what events in which you will, in all likelihood, participate.  Each of these tests is designed to evaluate a particular skill required in our sport.  They include jumping, speed, acceleration and endurance exercises.  Potential events in which one can participate include 55 Dash, 55 Hurdles, 4 x 200, 4 x 400, 4 x 800, 300, 600, 1000, Mile, 2 Mile, Shot Put, Long Jump and High Jump.  Obviously these events require a diverse skill set. Few can do everything well.  It is best then to determine what you do best and/or have the most potential for achieving your best, and working toward that end.  It should prove interesting.  Today I am told the Boys will be meeting in the locker room at 2:10.  The Girls will be meeting on the Indoor Track at 2:10 as well.  See you then.  (Note to BP, CW. . . if you aren't joining but want to continue the training, for you it is 45 minutes at an Easy Pace, Strides, Stretch today!  Oh, by the way . . . nice races on Thursday!)
