Wednesday - W-H versus Duxbury

The following is the summary of today's Girls' meet submitted to W-H Administration and local media:

In a well contested meet, the Whitman-Hanson Panther Girls Track and Field team prevailed against Duxbury at home Wednesday afternoon 73-63.  W-H held a very slim lead following the running events, but pulled away in the field events behind first place finishers, Freshman Dorothy Donohue, the winner in both the Triple and High Jump, Senior Mikayla Clemens in the Javelin (102.5') and Alexandra Santos in the Long Jump.  Senior Captains Abbie Newman (Mile - 5:35) and Samantha Coletti (800 - 2:19), along with Juniors Lily Nolan (200 - 26.8) and Santos (200 - 26.5) all met Eastern Mass Qualifying standards in their events in the win.

Excellent work ladies!  Frankly, it was a little too close for comfort, but a win is a win and the coaches came away thinking we can improve dramatically by tweaking the performance list a bit.  We will continue to work at putting you in the best position to help the team and you, individually, accomplish your goals.  Game balls tomorrow . . . followed by a long, easy run for those still in the continental US!  (I have done a lot of things, travel to Europe is not one of them.)  Again, great job by all the girls,

Distance boys . . . Duxbury is a young powerhouse.  Phenomenal distance runners.  If you need motivation, the Duxbury team should serve that purpose.  Ordinarily, I'd expect having two milers under 5:10 and a 2 miler at 11:00 would result in more than a single point.  You were not a disappointment . . . Duxbury is simply a very, very strong team!  Keep up the effort.  Starting tomorrow at 2:15!
