I was unable to post today's workout, but it might have scared off a few of you, so that worked for me. Hills was the workout of the day with Coach Berens taking the Orchard "Estates" crew with others headed to the Town Park. These workouts are a good substitute for a tempo run and they simulate or replicate some of the XC courses you'll be running this year. In particular, the Gardner (MA) Golf Course, the site of the Bay State Meet which will be held on October 22, as well as the All-State Meet on November 12. We have more hill workouts planned.
Tomorrow (Friday) practice will start at 11:00AM due to early dismissal. Don't plan on an "easy" day. Everybody will work together and I am thinking with a forecast of 76 degrees and partly sunny that we will run some repeats on grass surfaces. I will be working out the logistics this evening and provide details when we convene tomorrow.
I am also thinking about summer training. Your first reaction to that is likely to be "Why?" Well, the answer is fairly obvious to me. If we had all followed a similar plan this past summer, we would all be in the "same place" today. Instead, we have a myriad number of ability levels. Today, I had several people tell me the workout was too difficult. I also had a couple of people say the workout was not difficult enough. Tuesday we visit Duxbury. Duxbury is a formidable opponent. Work hard tomorow. Work hard on Saturday (when we hope to hold practice at Wompatuck State Park in Hingham.) You'll have Sunday and Monday (a very easy shakeout run) to rest up.
Bring your (good) attitudes tomorrow at 11:00AM . . . see you there.
