After 7 weeks of part-time, not-for-profit work as a carpenter, electrician, plumber, floor installer, painter, and grouter (is that even a word?), almost none of which I had attempted previously, I finished remodeling a one-bedroom condo. Thankfully it was not any larger, my knees couldn't take it. Running is actually easier and far more enjoyable. The reward for good work however is often . . . more work! Now that Mrs. Coach knows of my tradesman skills, I have a list as long as my arm of things she would like completed. Like I said, a rewarding day.
Today was also the running of the inaugural "Duck Hunt Race" (don't blame me for the name!) at Burrage Pond in Hanson. 15 intrepid harriers came out in the cold to run a 5K in practice in lieu of running the Coaches Invitational. The terrain was quite similar to the Wrentham course and was our way of warming up for the all important EMass meet next week. The results of today's "race" are as follows (keeping in mind some of you are banged up a tad and others wore sweats which understandably impacted times):
Jack Ryan (16:47)
Andrew Newman (16:56)
Lukas Moscoso (18:15)
Alex Uva (19:00)
Joe Coletti (19:23)
Cam Wilson (19:28)
Nicole Norve (19:40)
Adam Solari (20:01)
Olivia Morse (20:15)
Julia Cosgrave (21:56)
Camryn Boyce (22:07)
Lilly Perkins (23:19)
Maeve Rooney (23:37)
Tori Carleton (23:50)
Maddie Navicky (27:27)
Congratulations to Jack Ryan on the victory, it was well deserved, despite the detour! Your reward is on its way! Game ball however goes to Andrew Newman who ran a sub 17:00 5K. Pay no attention to the wizard behind the curtain who is telling you it's not official. In my mind anyway, it is! Of course, running that time at Wrentham will go a long way in legitimizing your achievement, the reward for which will be bragging rights vis-a-vis athletic.net!!
Following the adage "the reward for good is more work" I promised I would name the 7 runners who will compete at EMass as well as the alternates. They are as follows:
Boys: Ryan, Moscoso, Pulkinen, Newman, Wilson, Uva, Coletti Alternate #1 - Hager, #2 Solari
Girls: Norve, Morse, Cosgrave, Perkins, Boyce, Rooney, Carleton Alternate #1 - Boss, #2 - Navicky, #3 - Daly
Unfortunately, we have only a 14 person van for transportation to Wrentham on Saturday. I am trying to line up transportation for the additional 5 alternate athletes. We'll discuss that early next week.
Well, back to "boys night in." My immediate reward for a hard day's work is falling asleep on the couch watching college football. See you Monday . . .
