Thursday - June 28, 2018

Today's forecast is rather ominous calling for rain and thunderstorms throughout.  The Captains, I'm sure, will let you know what effect the weather will have on their strength/conditioning session scheduled for 4:00PM at the track.  The various running plans previously published call for a rest day tomorrow so it may make sense to switch off and complete today's run tomorrow instead.  I am hopeful everybody is out there following some logical plan to prepare you for August 23rd.  There was a nice showing on Tuesday evening with "the Maeves" leading the group in the team's warm up routine, core exercises, strength training and stretching along with an easy jog in between them.  Pass the word, all are welcome, and encouraged to participate.

One announcement made on Tuesday was that the Outdoor Girls Track & Field team had three athletes selected to the Brockton Enterprise All-Scholastic team.  Congratulations to Ally Bartlett, Dorothy DiMascio-Donohue and Samantha Perkins on the well-deserved achievement!

Something you should be thinking about as we head toward our season is the opportunity for community service.  We customarily do some work which impacts us directly such as the Damien's 5K (Mr. Paul Clark is very generous when it comes to our program) and Middle School Cross Country teams which gives us some familiarity with up and coming athletes.  But we should also consider local agencies which provide much needed services to those less fortunate than ourselves.  Last year, for example, we collected and donated hats and socks for the Friends of Boston's Homeless and accompanied those items with a nice donation.  If you, or your family, have an idea for a community service project, I'd love to hear it.

OK then - try to stay dry but PLEASE DO NOT run in a thunderstorm, and if you're just lying about try to fit in some core work.  That too, will payoff in August and beyond!  Can't help thinking about Martha's Vineyard . . .
