9/12/18 - Whitman-Hanson @ Hanover

TODAY'S MEET HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL THURSDAY (TOMORROW) 9/13.  PRACTICE WILL BE HELD AND WILL GET UNDER WAY ON THE INDOOR TRACK AT 2:30

Today's light rain should taper off for our 4:00PM start at Hanover High School.  The Girls will run first on the 2.5 mile course, with the Boys race immediately following.  Directions to Hanover High School from WHRHS can be found at the following link:

The bus departs the WH Gym area at 2:30.

Just a reminder with regard to AWAY meets.  Student-athletes leaving with their parent(s) or siblings must inform Coach George (who will want to say a quick hello.)  Student-athletes leaving with another student-athlete's parent must have a signed note from his/her own parent.  NO EXCEPTIONS.  The only other option to the foregoing is to return to WHRHS via the bus.

We have discussed the importance of being familiar with the course you are running.  Hanover has athletes on both the Girls and Boys team who will be running at the front of the pack.  DO NOT rely on that probability for confidence in running an unfamiliar course.  When Hanover gives you the tour of the course, PAY ATTENTION.  Understand the terrain, be aware of twists and turns along the way, know the hills, ask about the Mile Markers.  Unlike our course, where the finish line is in full view from 400 Meters out, the Hanover course finish line will sneak up on you.  Plan to establish where you will begin your finishing kick.  Keep in mind, every opponent you fail to pass is a point lost.  In today's meet, a point may the difference between winning and losing.

One of the things I love about Invitational meets is that almost everybody is running at a neutral site, and generally speaking each runner shares a similar knowledge of the course.  Dual meet competition provides a big edge to a home team.  Part of your job today is to neutralize that advantage.  You can only do that by being aware of your surroundings and by establishing a pre-race strategy based on that knowledge.  Physically, you're prepared.  Cognitively, your race result is in your own hands.  Don't let your opportunity slip away.

2:30.  Be there.
