New easy pace mile times were discussed and assigned yesterday. As mentioned, easy pace training times are important for a number of reasons. They are based on performance, not goals. Training at this pace will therefore help prevent injury. You should be able to extend your run if you train at the prescribed pace. You will conserve your energy for the faster paced workouts that follow easy days. Longer runs + faster workouts = improved race times. Improved race times lead to faster training times. Following this cycle will have you peaking in the weeks leading up to the Championship segment of the season. It is a methodical recipe for success. That said, Groups 1 and 2 will hold workouts today. Group 3, which is showing steady improvement will continue conditioning runs. Everybody should be ready to participate in our meet versus Hanover on Wednesday of next week.
Saturday's long run will take place on the Rail Trail between Abington and Hanover. The trail, most of which is now paved, begins on Monroe Street in Abington and runs through Abington and Rockland to the Hanover Town line. It is flat and peaceful. I enjoyed running on the trail for many years. I'm certain you will as well. End to end the route is approximately 2.65 miles, making for an out and back distance of 5.3 miles. In years past, some of our athletes have extended their run on the trail by heading back out on all or part of the route. Directions to the start point are found at the following link:

We will get under way at 8:30 and ALL are expected to be there. You have already seen that those who trained consistently during the summer are showing great results. Those dedicated to training in-season can expect to see dramatic improvement in the weeks to come. Sincere commitment may even move you into the Top 7! I want you all to succeed. The question is how bad do you want it?
See you at 2:30.
