 The following was provided to Administration and local media following Thursday's meet at Quincy/North Quincy:

BOYS

The Whitman-Hanson Boys Cross Country team got its season under way with a solid win over Quincy-North Quincy at Pageant Field in Quincy Thursday afternoon. Quincy-North Quincy runners took the top two spots, but the Panthers took 7 of the next 8 places to win 27-32.  Leading the way for Whitman-Hanson on the 2.1 Mile course were Junior Captain Logan Bourgelas (12:18), Juniors Alex Kehayias (12:21), Gavin McCarthy (13:04), Adam Vinton (13:38) and Senior Jonathan Young (13:46.)

GIRLS

The Whitman-Hanson Girls Cross Country team lost a heartbreaker to Quincy-North Quincy at Pageant Field, Quincy, 28-29 Thursday afternoon.  Sophomore McKenna McCarthy was the Panthers top finisher on the 2.1 Mile course, finishing 2nd overall in a time of 13:59 while Junior Sky Bucci-Anderson placed 3rd in 14:01.  Rounding out the scoring for WHRHS were Junior Amiliya Gretsky (7th, 15:21), Senior Captain Anne Tilley (8th, 15:26) and Sophomore Chloe Handlin (9th, 15:28.)

Whitman-Hanson 27, Quincy/North Quincy 32: The Panthers won the Patriot League match as Logan Bourgelas (3rd in 12:18 over 2.1 miles) was the top finisher for W-H. David Schmidt and Kyle Clements finished 1-2 in the loss for Q/NQ.

North Quincy/Quincy 28, Whitman-Hanson 29: Q/NQ won the Patriot League match as Salma Boukhtam finished first. W-H's McKenna McCarthy was second in 13:59 over 2.1 miles, and teammate Sky Bucci-Anderson placed 3rd in 14:01.
